October's Focus - Taming the Homework Beast!
Hi families! This month’s focus is about how to make homework time a more enjoyable experience.
🖤 BUILD THE LAUNCHPAD: Help your student find a quiet, consistent workspace away from the TV and video games. Make sure they gather snacks, water, and chargers before starting to cut down on mid-study disruptions.
🖤 MASTER THE DIGITAL TOOLS: Middle school requires staying organized online. Make it a habit to sit down with your student and check Google Classroom for daily assignments and upcoming projects. Don’t forget to regularly log into the Student Portal together to track grades and catch missing assignments before they pile up!
Parents have access to Parent Portal (same login as at registration) to also monitor grades.
🖤 BE THE STUDY PARTNER: You don’t need to know all the answers to help your student! Simply sitting nearby, doing your own work, or reading sets a great example. If they get stuck or frustrated, encourage them to take a timed 5-minute screen-free break to stretch and reset.
🖤 CELEBRATE and REFLECT: Keep motivation high by saving screen time, outdoor play, or hanging out with friends for after homework is done. Talk with your child about what is working and what isn’t - building these habits now sets them up for high school success!

Welcome to a new school year. My name is Mrs. Cosper. I have been working in education 20+ years, and I am thrilled to be the counselor at CMS.
What is my role as a School Counselor? School counselors are certified educators who focus on improving student success for ALL students.
🖤 THE COUNSELOR DOES. . .
work with all students
see students in the classroom, small groups, and individually
help students emotionally, socially, and academically
care about the difficult things students are experiencing, as well as their successes
want all students to feel safe at school and at home
work with teachers and families to help students be their best
🖤 THE COUNSELOR DOES NOT. . .
only see students who get in trouble a lot
have a magic wand to fix problems
tell anyone what students say unless they share that someone is hurting them, they want to hurt themselves, or they want to hurt someone else
judge students or families for what they share or don’t share
punish students or get them in trouble
do long-term mental health counseling
